That gives you more choice over dates and makes it easier to plan the right vehicle and crew, particularly if you’re moving on a Friday, at the end of the month or during another busy period.
You don’t need every detail confirmed before getting in touch, either. We regularly speak to customers who know roughly when they’re moving but are still waiting for exchange or a final completion date.
When Should You Start Getting Removal Quotes?
As soon as you have a reasonable idea of when the move is likely to happen.
You don’t necessarily need an exact date at this stage.
Knowing roughly where you’re moving from and to, the size of the property and how much you have to move is usually enough to start the conversation.
For larger house moves, getting organised earlier is particularly useful because we may need to plan for a larger vehicle, more movers or extra time.
Do You Need a Confirmed Moving Date Before Getting a Quote?
No. It’s completely normal to start getting removal quotes before your completion date is confirmed.
Property chains can change, and we regularly speak to customers while they are still waiting for exchange or final dates.
Once your moving date is confirmed, let your removal company know as soon as possible so the crew, vehicle and timings can be finalised.
When Do Removal Companies Get Busiest?
Some dates are naturally more popular than others. We tend to see more demand around:
- Fridays
- The end of the month
- School holidays
- Summer
- Bank holiday periods
If you know you want one of these dates, getting in touch earlier gives you a better chance of securing it.
This is particularly important if you have a larger move or need additional help such as dismantling furniture.
What If You Only Have a Week’s Notice?

The more information you can give us straight away, the easier it is to assess the move quickly. Photos or a rough item list can be particularly useful when time is limited.
Do Bigger House Moves Need More Notice?
Usually, yes. A smaller flat move with relatively few belongings is easier to organise at short notice than a large family home full of furniture.
Bigger moves may require:
- A larger removals vehicle
- Additional movers
- More loading and unloading time
- Furniture dismantling
- Extra planning around access and parking
Giving us more notice means we have more flexibility to arrange the right setup for the move.
What Should You Tell the Removal Company?
When requesting a quote, it helps to have an inventory before getting in touch. If you’re unsure how much you have, photos can often give us a good starting point.
- Your current and new addresses
- Your approximate moving date
- Property size
- Main furniture and larger items
- Details of stairs, lifts or awkward access
- Any packing or dismantling help you need
