If you’ve found a sofa, wardrobe, table or another piece of furniture on Facebook Marketplace but the seller says collection only, you don’t necessarily need to hire and drive a van yourself.
We regularly help customers collect furniture they’ve bought online and deliver it straight to their home using our Man & Van service.
The main thing is making sure we have the right information before collection, particularly the size of the item, the collection and delivery addresses, and what access is like at both properties.
Can You Hire Someone to Collect Facebook Marketplace Furniture?
Yes. A Man & Van service is a straightforward option if you’ve bought something that won’t fit in your own car or is too heavy or awkward to move yourself.
We’re regularly asked to collect things like:
- Sofas and armchairs
- Wardrobes
- Beds and mattresses
- Dining tables and chairs
- Chests of drawers
- Desks
- Cabinets
- Garden furniture
Once the collection arrangements have been agreed with the seller, we can collect the item and transport it to your address.
What Information Do We Need Before Collection?
The more information you can give us, the easier it is to plan the collection properly.
- A description of the item
- Photos where possible
- Approximate dimensions
- The collection address
- The delivery address
- Whether there are stairs or lifts
- Any difficult access or parking restrictions
- The agreed collection time
For large furniture, measurements are particularly useful. A sofa may look fairly standard in a Marketplace photo but still be difficult to get through a narrow doorway or around a tight staircase.
Do You Need to Be There When We Collect It?
Not necessarily. If you have arranged everything with the seller beforehand, they can usually meet us at the collection address while you wait for the item at your home.
It’s important that the seller knows when we are arriving and that the item is ready to be collected.
If there are any gate codes, parking instructions or other access details, send these over beforehand too.
What If You’ve Bought a Large Sofa or Wardrobe?
Large furniture is exactly the sort of purchase where arranging professional collection can make life much easier.
The main issue is often not whether the item will fit in the van, but whether it will fit through the properties. Before buying something particularly large, it is always worth checking the item’s dimensions against your front door width, hallways, staircases, lifts, and any tight corners along the way.
If you’re unsure, send us photos and measurements before booking. We regularly move bulky furniture and can get a much better idea of what will be involved before arriving.
What If the Furniture Needs Dismantling?
Some items can be dismantled to make them easier to move, but it depends on how the furniture has been constructed.
Beds, tables and certain wardrobes may come apart fairly easily, while other furniture is not designed to be repeatedly dismantled.
Don’t assume an item can simply be taken apart once we arrive.
If you think dismantling may be necessary, tell us beforehand so we can discuss the best way to handle it.
How Much Does Facebook Marketplace Furniture Delivery Cost?
There isn’t one fixed price because every collection is different.
The cost can depend on things such as:
- Distance between collection and delivery
- Size and weight of the furniture
- Number of movers required
- Stairs or difficult access
- Time required for loading and unloading
- Whether anything needs dismantling
Can We Collect From Other Websites and Sellers Too?
Yes. Facebook Marketplace is the most common one, we can also help customers collect bulky purchases from places such as eBay, Gumtree, auction houses, furniture shops and private sellers.
The principle is the same: if you’ve bought something that is collection only and you have no practical way of transporting it yourself, a Man & Van can usually help.
